Daniel Radcliffe celebrating his 21st birthday. He has admitted that his alcohol problem caused him to ‘black out’ each time he drank

The 22-year-old added that he was so occupied with his public behaviour when drunk that he became ‘a recluse at 20’, boozing alone at home.

‘The drinking was unhealthy and damaging to my body and my social life. That’s beyond question,’ he said in an interview.

‘i used to be living in constant fear of who I’d meet, what i would have said to them, what i would have done with them, so I’d stay in my apartment for days and drink alone.

Radcliffe admitted last year that he quit drinking after he became ‘so reliant on [alcohol] to enjoy stuff’

‘i used to be a recluse at 20. It was pathetic it wasn’t me. I’m a fun, polite person and it turned me right into a rude bore.

Daniel Radcliffe when he first became Harry Potter. His drinking became a controversy after he turned 18

Radcliffe’s drinking became an argument after he turned 18.

With his problem worsening, he spoke
to Gary Oldman, who played Sirius Black within the Potter films and battled
alcoholism himself within the 1990s.

Radcliffe said: ‘I did discuss with him
about it once. I didn’t say I had an issue -because I didn’t think I
did at that time but I told him I shared that mentality he had for
actively searching out chaos.

‘He
just said, “You may’t keep doing this. You’ve got an excessive amount of to lose”.
And that truly went in. But not even he may have stopped me alone I
needed to stop myself.

‘And stopping has shown me a global of happiness that I didn’t think  was possible.’

Radcliffe admitted last year that he quit drinking after he became ‘so reliant on [alcohol] to enjoy stuff’.

At
the time he said: ‘Up to i might like to be someone that goes to
parties and has more than one drinks and has a pleasant time, that doesn’t
work for me. I try this very unsuccessfully.’

His latest comments are  the  most candid he was about his drink problem.
