Ladies, start your engines. We’re at Akris at the Grand Prix racetrack and Albert Kriemler is inside the driver’s seat. (Hometown royalty H.S.H Princess Charlene of Monaco, chic in a custom taupe agnello sheath, is at the sidelines.) Kriemler takes an early lead presenting a tunic, full flowing pant, and light-weight jacket in silk shantung that each one look fresh and crisp in a shade of green that means newly shorn grass. We’re going so fast that the pictures imprinted on the clothes, all inspired by John Frankenheimer’s 1966 film Grand Prix, whiz right by, reduced to streaks at the sides of silk crepe sheaths with only a small stamp of a spectator scene visible at the chest. There the prints go again-zoom-only now it’s a picture of a race car leaving sleek black-and-white trails in its wake across an extended-sleeved, long dress. Rounding the bend now there are open-weave crocheted zip-up jackets with leather shorts and color-blocked tunics in camel and citrus brights. Investigate the salmon-toned double-face cardigan with matching pants and terracotta top-and-pant look with white racing stripes. Finally, we’re approaching the house stretch: a winning series of patchwork-lace cocktail dresses-some asymmetrical, others pleated-which are just the object to wear for a victory lap.
