Here are six pre-fall essentials you should own that will help you to make a slow, stress-free and fun transition from summer into the fall.
Resort Collections 2012 took place a while ago, but we prepared a little review for you and pictures of our favorite pieces.
Trend alert!
Tropical prints, as predictable as they are for the resort collections, Givenchy, Versace, Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney came up with beautiful prints and hues as well as interesting cuts.
When we think of lace, we usually picture soft colors or blacks-very feminine and sexy. Well, Christopher Kane, Louis Vuitton, No.21, and Erdem showed us that lace can also be fun, just add some color!
We’ve seen tribal prints take a big part of the collections lately. Balmain, Lavin, Proenza Schouler, Thakoon, and Lanvin certainly find them very inspirational and cool looking.
Classic stripes are always in and are a must in resort collections. Gucci, Chanel, YSL played with stripes and came up with looks from ordinary to unexpected.
Casual chic just got a new meaning with a ‘pajama’-like suits trend. For example, Louis Vuitton came up with a blue leopard print suit that looks like a pajama. While Salvatore Ferragamo created a black silk ‘pajama’ that looks like a cool tuxedo. It is very interesting to see how these looks will translate into streetsyle! We also wonder if any celebrity will dare to wear one to the Red Carpet?
Bun hairstyle immediately causes a lot of associations with a strict teacher or a ballerina. However, bun is a very convenient and beautiful hairstyle that may be very modern as well.
It can be worn both during the day, at home when while cooking, shopping or at a party or even on a red carpet. It is often chosen by the celebrities for red carpet events, and designers continue using them on their models in the shows from season to season. You can twist your hair to make all sorts of buns: low or high; sleek or messy; simple or elegant. You can even braid your hair and put it in a bun to create texture or just add a cute accessory to decorate it!
There are so many ways to wear this hairstyle! Regardless of the way you choose to make it look, don’t forget to add some hairspray before you pull your hair in a bun and at the end once its done to make sure it lasts throughout the day/night.
Orange color that screams summer time became a hot trend for this season not only in accessories and clothing pieces, but also in make up!
Orange, both soft and bright was used in lipsticks, lip glosses, blush and eye shadows to create fresh and new looks on the models on the runways of Spring/Summer 2011 collections.
Tommy Hilfiger, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Fendi, and Milly featured orange lips and quickly made a big trend for this season. Orange is a great alternative to the classic red or flirty pink lips. If you are ready for a change and ready to experiment, you should definitely try it this summer!
Make sure that you don’t have dark color shadows on your eyes as bright lips look requires a little bit of mascara, some peach blush and glowy skin in order to work properly and to make you look fresh and trendy!
In case you are eager to try orange on your eyes, please, don’t apply orange or any color on your lips at the same time. This will make you look crazy! Instead, apply some mascara, orange eye shadows or eye lines, some peach blush and moisturizer on the lips to get a beautiful look like the models in Derek Lam or Carolina Herrera’s shows.
When we think summer right away we imagine hot days, beach, waves and lots of sun. What does it mean? Yes! Time for a new swimsuit! And before you go and blindly get a new one, make sure to check out what’s trendy this summer so you can stay fashionable even on the beach!
First, if you are a fan of retro style, than you can get excited for 50’s looks that are in this season! Think high waist bottoms and strapless bras. Vintage can be so chic and beautiful! If you ever wanted to be a part of Marilyn Monroe’s era, then go get one of these pieces now!
In reality, shapes of the swimsuits don’t change much form season to season. What changes then? The details. So, what’s hot for Summer 2011? An animalistic print, crochet, fringe and ruffles! While animalistic prints will show that you are brave and wild; fringe will have a bit of the Western appeal and will point out your fun personality. Ruffles are good if you are channeling your romantic side this season. And crochet will make you look sexier and more appealing to a man’s eye! Also, crochet has a little trick: it distracts from your flaws (if you have any!) because it is so detailed and beautifully busy.
It’s summer time and it means that you should be fun and adventurous. Why not to try it with one of the hottest trends of the season: prints!
There are so many ideas for different characters and personalities! For example, D&G elaborated on a garden theme by bringing lots of flower prints into their collection. Emilio Pucci came up with some beautiful sexy bohemian patterns. While Prada and Jil Sander really focused on all sorts of stripes, thin and wide, vertical and horizontal, and very colorful! If you are ready for experiments, then wild prints in Topshop Unique or Louis Vuitton collection that was inspired by Asian culture are right for you! There are a few rules if you want to try this new trend!
First of all, don’t think that patterns and prints are only for ‘certain’ body types! Remember, that anyone can wear it! If your hips are heavier than your upper body, then wear a top/jacket/blouse with prints and pair it with simple black or other solid color bottoms. And if your upper body is heavier, than wear a simple top and fun and printed bottom. This trick will create an illusion of a slimmer and more balanced out body. Also, don’t forget that while you can get wild and have as much fun as you’d like with this summer’s hottest trend, balance is the key to success! So, don’t wear printed outfits head to toe! If your top is busy, it means that the choice of your bottoms should be simple and neutral, and the other way around.
What can be both beautiful, flirty, romantic, chic and sexy and it’s also IN this season? If you answered ‘Lace’, then you are correct!
Alberta Ferretti, Dolce & Gabanna, Oscar de la Renta, Erdem proved that wearing lace is one of the ways of being sexy and romantic at the same time, without baring too much of your body, because lace gives you a hint of skin without revealing too much and wanting others to get more! However, you should be careful, because you don’t want to look too available or let alone sluty! Whenever in doubts, choose only one item in lace fabrics and pair it with another beautiful but solid piece, to save the romantic and sexy look.
Together with lace, sheer fabrics also became a hit this season. If you are brave enough, go get that see through dress and a fabulous set of lingerie and wear them together for a hot night out!
One of the highlights of the shows Spring/Summer 2011 was seeing lots of colors! In fact, bright and neon in your closet are must haves this season! And really, why not? Neutral and ‘all-white’ looks are fresh, feminine and beautiful, but it’s summer time and girls got to have fun! For color blocking ideas you should take a look at such collections as Gucci, Prada and Michael Kors.
So, how do you wear this trend? Come out of your shell, try new colors, and forget about being safe and boring! Come up with unexpected combinations, feel the mood, wear brights and neons! As with anything else, there is always a limit, but don’t be afraid to make fun decisions! If you are afraid of looking crazy or not sure what color blocking is, then just go get a few colorful pieces and pair them with neutrals. This way you will be able to be trendy and fashionable but safe from making a crucial mistake!
It seemed like all designers got together beforehand and decided to do the same thing for their Spring/Summer 2011 collections.
Meet ‘Aprčs-mini’ trend: midi and long skirts and dresses-the trend that was seen all over the runways. There was a time when we
thought that mini would always be in because it’s sexy, it shows off our legs and it works! However, designers proved that ‘below the knee’ can also be sexy, beautiful and wearable.
A wonderful thing about this trend is that it works all the time, everywhere. For example, you can wear a midi skirt with a blouse and a jacket to work, you can put on a long skirt with a white T-shirt and a pair of cool heels and go out, you can wear a long bohemian dress with a pair of flats and do your groceries,go to the beach or take a walk on a lakefront. This trend also works together with the other ones this season, you can pair a long skirt with a printed top, you can be more risqué and get a bright below the knee skirt with a bright top as well (color blocking!), or you can wear a long dress in cool prints: animalistic, butterflies, flowers, wild, etc.
For inspirations, check out Chloe, Marc Jacobs, Fendi and Jil Sander and many others.
